FINBAR'S FINAL MF BROADCAST:

At 0033 utc on the 19th of February 2009, one of Malin Head Radio's longest serving operatives, and Senior Radio Officer - Finbar O'Connor, made his last ever Navigational Warning broadcast on MF prior to his retirement after 7 years at sea and then 34 years on shore with the station. Below you will find a link to the broadcast, covering both the initial call on 2182 kHz and the full message on 1677 kHz, Malin Head's working frequency.

THE TEXT OF THE MESSAGE: (starts at 4 minutes 17 seconds in)

"Now a Notice to Shipping, and it begins: This is my final Medium Frequency and VHF broadcast from Malin Head Radio callsign EJM, started work here in 1975 having served at sea for seven years prior to that. May I take this opportunity to wish all those at sea, ashore and listening tonight all the very best, bon voyage and safe sailing. This is Malin Head Radio on the air since January 1902, with callsigns MH, GMH and EJM closing my last broadcast. Good morning, good watch, take care".
