Below you will find a number of the pictures I've taken at various UK radio stations. This section will hopefully be expanded in the coming months. |

This shot shows the old Piccadilly Radio/Key 103 studios at Piccadilly Plaza in Manchester. This site is no longer used, and the station is now located in a different part of the city. This shot was taken in the mid-nineties. (245kb) |
This shot shows the current BBC Radio Lancashire studio complex at Darwen Street in Blackburn. This was taken in late 2005. (483kb) |
Another shot of the BBC Radio Lancashire studios. (348kb) |
This shot of the TFM/Great Northern Radio studio was taken during a visit to a railway open day at Thornaby in Teeside in the early nineties. The studio was almost right next to the railway yard, so I couldn't resist taking a picture of it whilst I had the opportunity. (376kb) |
In the late 1990s the BBC came to Manchester for a series of special programmes, and even had a special FM channel for their broadcasts. The main programmes were broadcast from this temporary studio in Brown Street, close to the main shopping complex. (239kb) |
KLCX were a classic rock station, and were bidding for one of the north west regional licences (sadly they didn't get it). In this shot DJ Paul Hollingworth can be seen presenting the Friday Rock Show. (266kb) |
This shot shows the the KLCX FM transmitter, power output about 25 watts if I recall right. (214kb) |
This shot shows St John's Tower in the centre of Liverpool, this is where the Radio City studios are based. (90.1kb) |
In this shot from a different angle, you can just see the famous "Liver Birds" on top of the Liver Building at the bottom left-hand corner. (211.0kb) |
This elevated shot was taken from the top of the Anglican Cathedral's Tower, and you can even see one of the Gas Platforms out in the Irish Sea on the horizon. (346.0kb) |
This shot taken at the top of the tower on Liverpool's Anglican cathedral shows some of the many antennas which are instealled up there, several are believed to be used by local FM Stations. (264.0kb) |
This is another shot taken at the top of the Cathedral tower, the two white colineras are most likely the broadcast station antennas, the phased array looks like some sort of UHF system. (207.0kb) |
What caught my eye in this shot was the 'faraday screen' running around the masonary, those aerials would be very vulnerable to lightning strikes up there, so these probably provide a bit of protection to the antennas, as well as the building. (168.0kb) |
