It’s somewhat ironic that a brewery located in a monastery with a history dating back to the 1200’s is now connected with a global beer now brewed by reputably the world’s largest brewer. Through various ups and downs the brewery at the abbey obtained financial support from the Brasserie Artois. In 1987, a merger of the Brasseries Artois and Piedboeuf, created Interbrew and in August 2004, Interbrew merged with a Brazilian company called Ambev to create the world’s largest brewing organization, InBev.
