With a name that means "Morning Sun" the Asahi Breweries was founded in 1889 but was originally the name of the beer rather than the brewery. Asahi has completed many business deals with other breweries for distribution and brewing rights including Löwenbräu of Germany, Miller of the USA, Molson of Canada and Bass of England. It has also acquired other breweries, especially in China when in 1994 it acquired shares in Hangzhou Xihu Beer Asahi Co., Ltd., Quanzhou Qingyuan Beer Asahi Co., Ltd. Fujian, and Jiaxing Haiyan Beer Xihu Asahi Co., Ltd. and a year later in 1995 Beijing Beer Asahi Co., Ltd. and Yantai Beer Asahi Co., Ltd..
