Bass & Co Brewery

Location:          Burton upon Trent, England

Website:          Bass

The famous name of Bass & Co Brewery was born in 1777 when William Bass established a brewery in Burton upon Trent. It was a major player in the shaping of the brewery landscape in the UK with the purchases of Mitchells & Butlers, Charringtons and Stones. However in 2000 it had the tables turned when the buyer became the buyee of the Belgian brewing group Interbrew, which is now InBev. However the situation became even more complicated when the monopolies commissions decided that InBev were becoming just too powerful in the UK drinks market and forced them to sell off part of their estate. Bass Brewery was sold to Coors whilst they retained the rights to the name of Bass beer production. The famous Red Triangle logo is the world's oldest trade mark having been registered on January 1st 1876.
