The Berliner Kindl brewery has its roots way back in 1872 when in the town of Rollberg in Rixdorf a group of Inn Keepers came together to form the Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirthe zu Berlin, Actien-Gesellschaft, basically the Inn Keepers of Berlin Association Brewery. In 1890 as one of the first breweries in Germany the brewery started producing a pils beer called "Berliner Kindl" or "Berlin Child". The brewery went from strength to strength taking over other local breweries in the Berlin and Potsdam areas and in 1910 the brewery officially adopted the name "Berliner Kindl Brauerei." The brewery is now under the Radeberger Group of drinks manufacturers.
