Founded in 1859 in Udine by Luigi Moretti, Birra Moretti is almost as famous for its logo featuring the moustachioed old gentleman as it is for its range of beers. The Canadian brewer Labatt bought a majority stake in the brewery in 1989. When Labatt's was bought out itself by Interbrew in 1995, the Moretti piece, along with other Italian brewing concerns was bought by Heineken and it is currently owned by this parent company.
