Boddingtons

Location:         Manchester, England

Website:          Entry for Boddingtons in the Directory of UK Real Ale Breweries

The Strangeways brewery was founded in 1778 by two grain merchants and the iconic name of Boddingtons was established in 1853 when Henry Boddington took over the brewery. It was acquired by Whitbread in 1989 which in turn was acquired by Interbrew. The brewery is now closed and Boddingtons beer is brewed under contract by Hyde's.
In recent years it is perhaps best known for a series of effective adverts where various stylish and sophisticated models would enthuse in broad Manqunian accents how the beer was the "Cream of Manchester". Who can forget Melanie Sykes in the Ice Cream van?
