Founded in 1855 as Lande Gaard Bryggeri it was aquired in 1905 by the Egenæss family and has been family owned since then. It acquired the Halden Brewery in the 1960s and then merged with the Fredrikstad Brewery in 1989. In 1997 it merged again with the Hansa Brewery of Bergen which created the Hansa Borg Bryggerier. In 1999 Hansa Borg bought the Christianssands Bryggeri from Swedish brewers Spendrups.
