Calanda Bräu can trace its history back to 1780 when Rageth Mathis opened a small house-brewery in Chur. Eventually the small brewery was merged into the Aktienbrauerei Chur. It was then incorporated into the Rhätische Aktienbrauerei along with many other smaller breweries. In 1971 the Rhätische Aktienbrauerei merged with the Engadiner Aktienbrauerei to form the Calanda Bräu Brauerei. When in 1990 the Brauerei Haldengut was also taken into the fold, it became the third biggest brewery in Switzerland. In 1993 the brewery was taken over by Heineken.
