Caledonian Brewery

Location:         Edinburgh, Scotland

Website:          Caledonian Website

Founded in the Slateford area of Edinburgh in 1869 it was originally named after it's founders as the Lorimer and Clark Caledonian Brewery. When George Lorimer died in 1919 the brewery passed into the hands of Vaux Breweries and for a time all production was moved to Sunderland. A management buy out in 1987 though moved the heart of the brewery back to Scotland. In 2004 Scottish and Newcastle bought the site in Edinburgh and it is on these premises that they now brew their McEwan's range of beers. During the same period the Caledonian Brewing Company was formed and they now operate the brewery on behalf of the owners. In 2006 the Caledonian Brewing Company bought the Harviestoun Brewery of Alva. In 2008 S&N was bought out by the combined might of Carlsberg and Heineken. As part of S&N's British interests Heineken now runs Caledonian.
