Properly categorizing glasses from Carling has been a bit of a headache as the beers and the brewery have come a long way from their roots in Canada. In 1840 Thomas Carling, a farmer from Yorkshire, England, began a small brewing operation in London, Ontario selling beer to soldiers at the local military camp. When he died, his sons William and John took over, naming it the W & J Carling Brewing Co. Quite how it first got its foothold in the UK I'm not too sure of but at the end of the last century it was owned by Bass. In 2000 Bass sold its interest in Carling to Interbrew of Belgium and just a year later with the British Courts breathing down their necks Interbrew sells the Carling brand to Coors. Probably most famous in the UK for the classic "I bet he drinks Carling Black Label" adverts and their sponsorship of various aspects of English football.
