Formed in 1977 when the Sociedade Central de Cervejas (SCC) and the
Companhia de Cerveja de Portugal (CERGAL) companies were nationalised.
It was sold to the Colombian brewing group Bavaria in 1990 but in 2000
Scottish & Newcastle bought into the company and now own it outright.
