Charrington & Co

Location: London, England
Still well known for the Toby Jug logo Charrington was founded in 1738 as Wastfield & Moss and became Charrington & Moss in 1766. Registered in July 1897 as Charrington & Co. Ltd, it was eventually merged with Bass and Mitchell & Butlers in 1967 to form Bass Charrington Ltd which eventually dropped the "Charrington" from their name. The original Charrington Anchor Brewery ceased production in January 1975 and the brewery has been demolished.

Remarks: This style of glass is stamped on the bottom as "Registered Design No 953845". It is quite a common style of glass being much used by Bass and this example of mine from Tennet's. Thanks to Chris who identified this glass for me. This beermat shows the same logo. |
