Dominion Breweries was created in 1930 by Henry Kelliher and Morton Coutts when they bought up Levers and Co and the Waitemata Brewing Co in Otahuhu. It continued to take over other New Zealand located breweries including Taranaki and Tui breweries in 1970. In 1992 the name changed officially to DB Breweries. It is currently controlled by Asia Pacific Breweries of which the major shareholder is Heineken.
