The first mention of the Dortmunder Kronen Brewery comes in a document dated from 1430. In 1729 the brewery was bought by Johann Wenker and it was in the hands of the Wenker family that the brewery remained for many years.
In 1986 the brewery aquired the Dortmunder Stifts-Brauerei from the Essener-Stern Group and in 1992 the Privatbrauerei Thier was also acquired. In 1996 the rights to the Kronen mark and the distribution rights were sold to the Dortmunder Actien Brauerei.
