Franziskaner

Location:          Munich, Bavaria, Germany

Website:           Franziskaner

Franziskaner can trace its roots back to 1363 when the brewer Seidel Vaterstetter is mentioned as the owner of the brewery "next to the Franciscans". The name is derived from the Franciscan monastery just across the street. In 1841 the brewery was bought by a son-in-law of another great Munich brewer, Spaten owner Gabriel Sedlmayr, and just 20 years later the brewery was bought out by the son of the great man, Joseph. In 1922 the two breweries were united to form the Gabriel and Joseph Sedlmayr Spaten-Franziskaner-Leistbrau AG. In 1997 it merged with another Munich brewing giant Löwenbräu and now operates under the name of the Spaten-Löwenbräu Group, which in turn falls under the massive global umbrella of drinks giant InBev.
