Stella Artois is a huge global brand name known now to millions of drinkers around the world. It is one of those situations where the name of the beer has own ground the name of the brewery especially for a beer that came along quite late in the brewery's history. The brewery called "Den Horen" was first noted back in 1366 and much later in 1717 it was in the control of master brewer Sebastian Artois, who renamed it Brasseries Artois. The beer bearing his name came on the scene in 1926.

Brasseries Artois aquired the Leffe brand in 1952, the Dommelsch Brewery in The Netherlands in 1968 and in 1970 the Brasseries Motte Cordonier in France. Interbrew itself was formed in 1987 when the Brasseries Artois and Brasseries Piedboeuf merged. The acquisitions continued with the taking over of Hoegaarden in 1989 and Belle-Vue in 1990,  and from that point onwards there has been no looking back for the parent company of first Interbrew. In 2004 the then 3rd largest brewing company in the world (Interbrew) merged with the Brazilian owned 5th largest brewery in the world, AmBev to create the massive InBev.

In July 2008 InBev merged with the American massive brewers Anheuser-Busch to create Anheuser-Busch InBev. This gigantic brewer now makes some of the best known beers in the world including, Stella Artois, Beck's, Budweiser and Michelob. It is now the largest brewer in the world.

Because the name of Stella Artois is so linked with Interbrew and InBev I have decided to link these breweries to this page also although some of the glasses featured do not originate from the Den Horen brewery.
