James Deuchar & Sons Ltd
Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne & Sunderland, England
Website:
James Deuchar founded his brewery in the North East when he took over the Ridley Arms Brewery in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the Monkwearmouth Brewery in Sunderland in 1880 & 1890 respectively. In 1926 the company acquired the William Ross & Co Lochside Brewery in Montrose and then started brewing more Scottish flavoured beers, as can be seen from this label. In 1936 the Sunderland brewery ceased production and in 1956 the company was acquired by Newcastle Breweries. The Lochside brewery was sold to Macnab Distilleries and was converted to whisky production.

Remarks: Many breweries produced special ales for the Royal Coronation in 1953. This glass was probably produced for this event also. |
