John Smith's Brewery

Location: Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England
Website: John Smith's Bitter
John Smith's bitter is possibly the best known bitter in the United Kingdom alongside the other national bitter brand, Tetley's. Brewing at the Old Brewery in Tadcastler started in 1758 and was acquired by John Smith in 1847. A new brewery was built in 1883/4 with the old brewery being sold to a nephew who set up Samuel Smith's Brewery. John Smith's was acquired by Courage in 1970 and today it is now under the ownership of Scottish Courage.
