The first Kirin beer factory was established in Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama in 1907 when it was founded in the then bankrupt Spring Valley Brewery in 1870. Under the name Japan Brewery Company the company continued and combined with Meiji-ya to market Kirin Beer for the first time in 1888. It is part of the Mitsubishi core group of companies.
