In 1825 Franz Geyer started brewing beer in Laško and in 1838 the brewery was taken over by Heinrich August Ulrich who began to establish the reputation of Laško beer. in 1924 shares in the company were bought by the Slovenian Union Brewery and Laško ceased to be an independent company. However in 1938 a nion of inn keepers opened the new Laško Brewery d.d. Since then the brewery has flourish and in 2000 it became the majority stake holder in the Jadranska Pivovara in Split, Croatia.
