Grupo Mahou-San Miguel

Location:         Madrid, Spain

Website:          Mahou-San Miguel

Mahou was founded in 1890 in Madrid by Enrique, Luis and Carolina Mahou, the three children of a French entrepreneur, under the name Hijos de Casimiro Mahou, fabrica de hielo y cerveza. (The Sons of Casimiro Mahou, makers of ice and beer)

In 1953 under the "Manila Agreement" with the chairman of the San Miguel Corporation of the Philippines, a new company called La Segarra was set up to brew under the San Miguel brand-name. This later changed its name to San Miguel, Fábricas de Cerveza y Malta, S.A. and was eventually purchased by Mahou in 2000. In 2007 Mahou purchased the Alhambra brewery based in Granada.
