The brewery was founded in 1834 by John Marston and it merged with Thompson's in 1898. In 1999 the brewery was bought out by Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries PLC. It is the only brewery still using the Burton Union sets. In 2007 the Marston's name was adopted by Wolverhampton & Dudley to be reflected in all aspects of its business.
