Okells was founded by Dr William Okell in 1850 and by 1874 had bought many of the pub on the Isle of Mann. It was taken over in 1972 by a local wine and spirit merchant before being merged with fellow IoM brewery Castletown in 1986 when it was renamed Isle of Mann Breweries. It reverted back to the name Okells in 1994.
