Pélican-Pelforth

Location: Lille, France
Website: Pelforth
The Pelican brewery has its origins back in 1863 with the setting up of a brewery in the Vauban district of Lille. One of Pelican's most famous beers is Pelforth, a name created from the "Pel" from pelican and "Forte" to mean strong. The extra "H" was added as an anglification to stress the origin of the yeast, from England. In 1972 the name of the beer was more well known than that of the brewery and the company officially changed to become Pelforth Brewery. The brewery was taken over by Français de Brasserie in 1986 and since 1988 Pelforth has belonged by the Heineken group.
