The story of Prinz Bräu seems to be quite a complicated one so if I've got any of the facts wrong here, please do let me know. From what I can tell, the German food group Oetker decided to invest in an Italian beer and selected the name of Prinz Bräu. They build an office in Buronzo Carisio and named the company Prinzen Bräu Spa Carisio. In 1963 a second factory was build in Crespellano and in 1965 a third factory in Ferentino. Finally a forth factory was added in 1966 in Bari. Various office and factory opening and closures went on until 1987 when the Wolfsbräu SPA bought Prinz Bräu Italia SPA, they moved the offices to Rome but continued to brew Prinz Bräu beer. In 1989 Prinz Bräu Italia SPA was brought by the Canadian Labatt group at the same time that they bought a majority stake in Moretti. Although Labatt continued to produce Prinz Bräu beer it was done under the Moretti name and the Prinz Bräu Italia SPA name was not used again. In 1995 Labatt's was bought out by Interbrew. In 1996 Heineken bought the SPA Birra Moretti group from Interbrew and since 2000 has been producing beer under the Prinz name along with the other beer brands it produces in Italy. Whilst researching this information it would seem that Prinz Bräu has something of a loyal fan base which sometimes these infamous beer brands seem to attract. It also seems that the brand was exported to far flung reaches of the world like Uruguay, Alaska and Bulgaria. I got most of this information from the Prinz Bräu site.
