Founded in Gothenburg in 1828 by Johan Albrecht Pripp, Pripps joined with Finnish brewer Hartwell to form the brewing group BBH/Baltic Beverages Holding which developed into the market leader in Russia and the Baltic States. In 1995 Pripps merged with Ringnes to form the Swedish Norwegian Pripps-Ringnes Group. In 2000 Carlsberg stamped its dominance of the Scandinavian beer market by merging with Pripps-Ringnes to form Carlsberg Breweries Sweden.
