Ringnes was founded in 1876 by the brothers Amund and Ellef Ringnes. It remained a family run company until 1978 when it merged with De Sammensluttede Brewery and formed Nora Industrier. Nora itself merged with Orkla and then this was subsequently merged with Swedish brewers Pripps. In 2000 Orkla made a deal with Carlsberg where Pripps Ringnes became part of Orkla.
