The famous county brewery of Ruddles was founded in 1858 was was for a long considered a masterful brewery producing fine ales. It was taken over in 1986 by Grand Metropolitan and once again in 1992 when it was purchased by the Dutch brewing giants Grolsch. It was sold and bought again in 1997 when Morland of Abingdon moved production to its own site only for Greene King to buy out both Morland and therefore also obtain the Ruddles name.
