Most people interested in beer will have come across the well known smoked beer of Schlenkerla. Schlenkerla is actually the name of the gothic brewery tap, the brewery being called Heller-Bräu Trum, which is still in the hands of the Trum family after being established in 1678. Their most famous product, the smoked beer of Franconia, is made with malt that is kilned over beechwood fuelled fires.
