Schwechater Bier

It was way back in 1632 that Peter Descrolier founded the
brewery Schwechat. The brewery rapidly expanded and took over other breweries in
the 1850's and 1860's including the Braueri Michelob in 1859, the Brauerei
Steinbruch in 1862 and in 1869 the Brauerei Triest. in 1913 it merged with the
Brauerei St Marx and it repeated this action again in 1927 and 1928 with several
other breweries. In 1978 it was merged into the Brau Union
Osterreich Aktiengesellschaft.

Remarks: Although originally brewed by Schwechater, the license to brew Steffl were obtained by the Sopron Brewery in Hungary. This brewery merged to form Brau Union Hungária Breweries PLC which when obtained by Heineken was renamed to Heineken Hungária Breweries Plc. |
