Inscription: Franc All. La Bière De L'Amitié

Height: 19.5 cms

Diameter: 7.5 cms

Volume: 0.5l

Remarks: There is a beer called Bière De L'Amitié produced by the American brewers Green Flash and Belgium brewers St. Feuillien but with the Eifel Tower logo and French flag I don't think this glass can be for this beer.

Inscription: Gambrinus

Height: 12.5 cms

Diameter: 9.5 cms

Volume: 500 ml

Remarks: Ganbrinus, a King of Flanders is the unofficial Patron Saint of Beer. Unfortunately for me this means the name is used by many companies in either their name of their brand of beers. The most famous are the Gambrinus Brewery of Plzeň, Czech Republic, Gambrinus of Mulhouse, Alsace, France, the Gambrinus Company of San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A. and Gambrinus Brewing Co.of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. All of them seem to have different logos than the one that appears on this glass. I wonder if the volume marking of 500 ml is a clue?

Identified Glasses

I thought it might be nice to keep a record of those glasses that I have managed to identify. This way I can log how the glass was identified and any regular visitors can see the progress being made.

Inscription: TC Ltd

Height: 13 cms

Diameter: 9 cms

Volume: 1 Pint

Remarks: This picture shows the TC Ltd logo better (and also shows a beermat from the brewery). Many thanks to Peter who identified this glass after I put an appeal in the newsletter of the Brewery History Society. From the crown marking this glass looks to have originated in 1964 and was validated in Yorkshire.

Inscription: Crown

Height: 13.5 cms

Diameter: 8.5 cms

Volume: 1 Pint

Remarks: This style of glass is stamped on the bottom as "Registered Design No 953845". It is quite a common style of glass being much used by Bass and this example of mine from Tennet's.

Thanks to Chris who identified this glass for me. This beermat shows the same logo.

Inscription: Spitzbraü

Height: 16.5 cms

Diameter: 5.5 cms

Volume:

Remarks: With two Belgian and two French breweries producing beers with this name, this is a real tricky one to identify. Thanks to Cyril Pagniez for getting this far!

Chris Burian pointed out from another collector's pages that Spitzbraü was a product of the Breda Brewery.

Inscription: Jubileumsöl Scania 1891-1991

Height: 19.5 cms

Diameter: 5.5 cms

Volume:

Remarks: This glass was identified by the very kind Sune Svedin from Sweden. Proof that this beer was brewed by Spendrups can be found here.

Inscription: Triple 'A'

Height: 13 cms

Diameter: 7 cms

Volume:

Remarks: I'm not even sure if this glass is a beer glass as it's not really a typical beer glass shape. Young's Brewery of London did brew a beer called "Triple A" but I haven't managed to find a logo for this beer at all. I have also seen a very similar glass for sale on line from an American website claiming the glass was from an Oxfordshire brewery, but I can't find the site again!

IDENTIFIED! -

Remarks: Ian Fleming thought that this glass was a Young's Triple A. This was a barley wine from the 60s or 70s with an ABV of 11% - PHEW! I could still only find references to Young's Triple A being a standard bitter brewed after this time. (Another Link)

However when I then searched for the phrase "Triple A" and "Barley Wine" I found the following link, identifying it as an Ind Coope Brew.
