Watney Mann Ltd

Location: London, England
Website: Entry for Watney Mann in the Directory of UK Real Ale Breweries
Formed out of the merger between Watney, Coombe, Reid and
Mann, Crossman & Paulin, Watney Mann was created in 1958. It merged with Grand
Metropolitan Hotels in 1972 and was closed in 1979. The name of Watneys though
remains in the minds of many British folk by their sponsorship of the Watney
Mann Invitation Cup, or the
Watney Cup, a football tournament held in the early
70's and Watney's Red Barrel, a pasteurised beer that was the forerunner of
today's mass produced keg beers.
Monty Python lampooned the name in one of their
famous sketches.

Remarks: I obtained this glass from a Belgian based collector and was probably made by Watney for their Belgian market. |
