The Whitbread Beer Company
Location: London, England
Website: Whitbread
Initially founded in 1742 by Samuel Whitbread and Thomas
Shewell they took up residence in a brewery on Chiswell Street in London in
1750. The company went from strength to strength merging and taking over other
breweries, restaurant chains and drink industry businesses. It acquired
Boddingtons in 1989. In 2000 to 2001 it sold off
its complete beer company to Interbrew and then sold off its public houses and
bars also and now concentrates on leisure and hotel type businesses, for example
the Whitbread company now owns Premier Lodge, Costa Coffee shops and Cannons
Health & Fitness centres. It's modern day headquarters are located in Luton,
although no longer used for brewing the property on Chiswell Street is still
owned by the company and is used for corporate uses.
