Würzburger Hofbräu was founded in 1643 by the grandly titled Main-Franconian Prince Bishop Johann Phillipp von Schönborn. Würzburger Hofbräu has been exporting its beer to the USA since 1887 and has established itself in Germany by taking over several other breweries including the Fürstliche Brauerei Wächtersbach, Lohrer Brauerei, & Werner Bräu Poppenhausen.
