Originally founded in 1749 they moved to Edinburgh from Leith in 1778. In 1931 the brewery was merged with McEwan's to form Scottish Brewers Ltd. Eventually this brewery merged with Newcastle Breweries to form the famous Scottish and Newcastle Breweries.
