The Zipfer brewery was founded in 1858 when Viennese banker
Franz Schaup bought a small brewhouse. In 1970 the brewery was bought out by the
Austrian Brewing Association (Brau AG) and in 2003 Heineken became the
controlling factor in this organisation.
