A glorious weekend saw a couple of big car boot sales. Unfortunately the beer glass pickings were rather more meagre with only 3 new additions to the collection. That said, this pint Faust Mug, a Mützig Goblet and a Dorada Mug are all welcome additions.

Another unknown glass that I need help in identifying (no picture as yet) - Since this post, the glass has been identified as coming from Threlfells Chesters brewery.
Oct 2010
Another unknown glass that I need help on identifying. In two totally separate shops I found two glasses of exactly the same shape on the same day. Both are from Germany, one from DAB and one from the Schloßbrauerei Au-Hallertau.
Aug 2010
Apologies for the lack of updates. I hadn't realised it was nearly a year since I last updated. Collecting hasn't stopped though and the big news is I have now broken the 1,000 glass mark!! Too many new glasses to mention. Any help on this new one in the unknown section? - Dobbelen (this glass has since been identified :-) )
Sept 2009
Finally, finally I have managed to get my hands on a Polish beer glass! This Okocim pint was obviously designed for the British import market.
July 2009
Apologies for the lack of updates, the collection has been steadily growing though. A new country was "captured" with the acquisition of my first glass from Belize, namely a glass from Belize Brewing. On the other hand from one of the most represented counties in the collection another German glass was added in this mug from the Bayreuther Bierbrauerei.
Apr 2009
The big 900 has been broken!!! A 7 glass haul today saw the grand total of the collection now standing at 904!
Mar 2009
Another great trade with Dimitrios from Greece results in my first Croatian glass! Then this week's car-boot scores a magnificent 5 new glasses.
Feb 2009
Well what a nice end to the month. 4 glasses from a fellow collector from Belarus, best of all this means I have glasses from three new countries; Kaluzhskaya from Russia, Krynitsa from Belarus and Ragutis from Lithuania
January 2009
No I haven't died and gone to the great beer glass collection in the sky. It's just been very quiet on the collection front at the moment. Still let's start things off with two new Ukrainian glasses from Obolon and Slavutych
September 2008
September has got off to a flying start with my first Ukrainian beer glass from the Ridna Marka brewery. That's makes glasses from 46 different countries now.
17/08/08
It's been really slow on the old collection front, especially as the rubbish weather has put the mockers on any good car-booting. That said I managed to pick up my second Argentinean glass today from the Quilmes Brewery. Everyone knows that Car Boots are ideal places for bargains but even I was amazed when the lady charged me the princely sum of one penny for this glass. Big spender that I am, I gave her 5p and said keep the change!!
July 2008
Not updated for a while, but the glass count is still ticking over. Lots of new glasses from the Czech Republic to check out. Two new pints, one from Gales and one from Caledonian.
April 2008
Fellow collector Ron and been generous in the extreme and donated a huge number of spare glasses. The collection now tops the 850 mark! Check out the speciality glasses from Greene King, Ansells and Kronenbourg.
20/03/08
Another milestone reached with the collection now topping 750. Much of this due to lots of new glasses from fellow collector Dimitrios Alexiadis in Greece. Check out the Greek glasses from Fix, Hellenic and Athenian and also the first Macedonian glass from Prilepska, the first Solvenian glass from Laško and the first Serbian glass from Apatinska.
02/02/08
A great haul of 93 new glasses sees the collection zoom up to the 744 mark. Another country is also welcomed into the collection with my first Argentinean glass. Also check out new glasses from Ind Coope, Jever and Wernesgrüner
01/12/07
Received a surprise package from fellow collector Ron which included some great old British glasses including ones from M&B and Theakstons. I've also posted a new solution to an adventure game which I haven't done for ages.
29/10/07
Another country is added to the list as Greek beer glass collector Dimitrios Alexiadis sends me a great Birra Korça glass from Albania.
02/09/07
Two months since the last update? Well not exactly. The appalling summer weather this year has lead to a poor showing at the car boots but the last two weeks have produced some very nice glasses. Last week I picked up three litre maß glasses from Holsten, Engelbräu and Henninger. This week brought interesting glasses from John Smith's, Berliner Kindl, Graf Arco, Krombacher, Schaumburger and Tivoli.
02/07/07
Just in case you thought I had stopped collecting for a time, I've been busy processing the 175 glasses that I obtained from SwanseaJack. Not only had this sailed my collection through the 500+ barrier, it has now raced Belgium in to the lead of the most represented country in the collection. It has also left me with lots more trade possibilities so do check out the Trades page too.
17/06/07
Well with it being Fathers' Day today in the UK it was quite apt that the Car Boot came up with a lovely little lot of 9 glasses including ones from Eldridge Pope, Worthingtons, Swan and Kaltenberg. There's also a new addition to the Unknown section, I reckon this must be another psydo-Continental British Lager attempt, but from which brewery? Also today saw the day that I reached and exceeded the 400 Glass mark! Whoo Hoo!
29/04/07
It was Belgium Beer Glass madness at the old car boot today, with 9 Belgian glasses picked up and then 3 other for good measure. Check out, Grimbergen, Rodenbach, Haacht, Dubuisson, Ginder and Van Hosenbrouck for the new boys.
16/04/07
Good old Sam from Israel came up trumps again today with 4 new glasses, 2 from Tempo and two very nice glasses inscribed in Hebrew from Carlsberg and Tuborg. I also picked up this Crown glass which I've had to put in my Unknown section. Can you help identify it?
01/04/07
It might be April Fool's Day but not for those that got up early to visit the first proper car boot of the year. 6 glasses collected and then two more traded from Ron. Check out the Charrington, Tennet's, Arkell's, Mittlewalder and Hall and Woodhouse pages to see some of these.
20/03/07
Yeah, I know, I know, I haven't updated anything for ages, but hey sue me! Got in touch with another collector today going by the name of 'Enoch'. You can check out his Wheat Beer glass collection here.
06/03/07
Well after nearly a month of no activity, I collected three glasses today. Two from a fellow English collector, Ron, and one from local Camra member Jeff. So that's Wrexham Lager and Okells which means two more countries appearing on the list (Wales and the Isle of Mann) and another Czech glass, this time from Samson.
09/02/07
You go all the way to Belfast and you find a glass from Abingdon! Typical!
03/02/07
With another successful trade with Hugo Soares, a collector from Portugal, has taken the total to 328 and now includes 11 glasses from Portugal. And then the following day I got my first Liefmans glass to make the total 329.
25/01/06
Two Whitbread Tankard Bitter glasses gleaned. Updated information about Marston's, Wolverhampton & Dudley and Courage.
23/01/06
Happy New Year! And what a start with a successful trade with Sam from Israel which has given me 6 great glasses from the Tempo Brewery.
27/12/06
It's a ho ho ho Merry Xmas, especially when my lovely sister comes up trumps with another 9 glasses to take me over the 300 glass mark! Whoo Hoo! The milky bars are on me!
21/12/06
Another country comes into the collection with a successful trade with Tiago Jardim, a collector from Portugal. And take a look at my massive Greene King IPA (Gnurrk Gnurrk)
04/12/06
My sister is a lot of things, but never so lovely as when she gave me 14 glasses when she cleared out her kitchen. Top glasses from BBAG, Iserlohn, Krombacher and Stauder to name but 4. Add to this the third Cain's Christmas series I found and a glass from Nepal, it's been a good couple of days.
25/11/06
I've just realised that I haven't updated this pages for quite a while. It's been a bit of a boom week in the old charity shops yesterday and today with 5 new glasses: Kronenbourg, Moretti, Schloss Bräu, Winterhuder and Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu all feature.
18/10/06
Bit of a weird week for collecting. The most scruffy car boot I've ever been to at Coventry raised no glasses whatsoever, but I got a great Zipf mug from Didcot as well as a cracking mug from Eichhof from Abingdon. The other two glasses I got were from a very nice lady called Emma who I contacted through the FreeCycle organisation, a classic Boddingtons and a Worthingtons. We had a visitor from Germany this week also and she brought a cute little Holsten mini-glass, which is by far the smallest in my collection.
08/10/06
Great job at the Car Boots today, grand haul of 12 glasses! Pick of the bunch were a nice Belhaven Pint Pot and a nice set of Giraf beer glasses from Albani.
02/10/06
Completed another trade, this time with Julien from Chopes Collection. And good old Abingdon came up trumps again with a magical haul of 5 new glasses including another country covered, India!
20/09/06
Having just completed my first trade I've now got glasses from two new countries, Cyprus and Greece. The trade was completed with Phoebus from Ipogios Beer Glasses. Many thanks for the trade my friend.
10/09/06
Just when I thought I'd conquered another country I find that the Bangla glass I found at the big end of season RNLI Henley Car Boot is actually from very exotic Oxfordshire! Mind you I did get my second Italian glass with a nice Nastro Azzurro one from Peroni.
06/09/06
Like buses, you can trawl the charity shop and hit blanks for an age, and then one week three come along at once. Got a great old Charrington Mug on Tuesday and followed this up with an Asahi Japanese glass and conquered another country with a Bintang glass from Indonesia.
03/09/06
The offerings at the car boots are getting less and less with the summer closing in, still managed to pick up three glasses today, two Kronenbourgs and one Tennet's. Got a mail from Thomas Morel of Trappistmania, a collection of really nice glasses from the 6 Belgium Trappist beweries. Check it out!
27/08/06
I've had a bit of a summer break and haven't updated for 3 or 4 weeks. That's not to say that the collection hasn't been growing and I've still been picking up glasses when and wherever I can. The good news is the collection has just topped the 200 figure!
06/08/06
A bumper day with 15 new glasses obtained and placed into the collection. I was up in Coventry (see Coventry Blog) so managed to fit in a quick car boot as well as my usual one near home. Highlights of the day include a nice Kölsch one, Tennet's Extra Mug, Watneys Red Barrel Mug and two new countries (Italy & New Zealand) conquored!
30/07/06
Another day and a another new Car Boot! We were camping for the weekend in Oxfordshire so I took advantage of visiting the Car Boot near to Abingdon. And what a good job I did, a lovely haul of 9 new glasses including a new Spanish one from Damm and my favourite sort, looks to be a complete mystery and could be from anywhere. I've tracked this one down to be French, from the Brasserie de L'Espérance.
23/07/06
Four seems to be the average number I add to the collection each week at the moment. I got a new Löwenbräu glass on Saturday and followed this up with 3 from the Car Boot at Reading's Swallowfields. My favourite of these is the Früh Kölsch one which I picked up from the bargain basement price of 25p!
17/07/06
A very quiet and disappointing week. Although I took in 4 different car boot sales yesterday they only yielded 2 glasses (Ciney and St Omer) and one further glass obtained for an "undisclosed source" (Coors) - Ho hum, still there's always next week.
06/07/06
I'm been meaning for ages to visit the Charity Shops of Abingdon, nearby to where I work. For a full blown account of this excusion please see my blog page about this! Anyway hat's off to the Charity Shops of Abingdon who came up with three glasses, a lovely Corsendonk one, a Foster's pint (that's Australia ticked off!) and an unidentified Gambrinus. Add that to the Schöfferhofer Weizen I picked up from Didcot and it was a fine fine day. Pity my luck didn't last until Newbury Races!
02-07-06
Well, not the bumper weekend of last weekend but a respectable haul of 4 beer glasses, including my 4th litre maß, 2 English pints and my first glass originating from Thailand. Don't worry, I've no doubts that the actual glass has come no further than some back street glass manufacturer in the UK, but it still feels nice to have "covered" another country!

My local car boot, “The Big One” in Thatcham is a fairly good place to pick up glasses and I’ve had a certain amount of success there. This was well and truly surpassed on the 25th of June 2006, when I discovered not one but two sellers with collections of glasses on their stall. One was fairly small, being about 7 glasses but the other was about 30+! Apart from the fact I got them at a snip and increased my collection by nearly 50%, I also got my first glasses from Norway and Sweden and also my first litre Maß’es. These are the big litre glasses most commonly associated with the Munich Oktoberfest. There’s too many to display here but this’ll remain as a bonanza day in the collection!

| 04/08/06 | GLASS IDENTIFIED! | Had some good response to my posting at RealBeer and also a mail from Filip. Reply from Julien Gurickx of Chopes Collection |
I'd pointed out to Julien that he had one of his glasses listed under the wrong brewer. Had a nice reply thanking me for the information and wishing me good luck with my collection. Still, in a collection of 5000+ glasses I think we'll let him off getting one wrong! |

Initial setting up of the site. |
I am purposely creating the site in the simplest way possible. No fancy graphics and bits and bobs yet. I think it far more important to get the nuts and bolts of the site running without issue before spreading my wings into other stuff. |
