Fuel system & Exhaust

Well the buggys been out several times now. I thought it was about time I started to tidy things up a little and put the finishing touches in. The gravity fuel tank that I'd rigged up worked well but I wanted things looking more professional. I was also fed up of lugging the petrol can around every time I went out. So it was off with the temporary tank.
The plans show how to fabricate a tank. To be honest I'm not that confident with the welder - especially if it needs to be fuel tight!! Anyway I'd already seen this one in the local leisure supplies shop. It's made of plastic and is designed to be used in a boat. It seemed ideal for the buggy.
The tank is designed to go on the left hand wing of the buggy. The weight of the fuel helps balance out the weight of the engine. I had to weld in a couple of extra bars to support the tank as the picture oppersite shows. It would be disastrous if the tank parted from the buggy over the rough stuff. The last thing I want is a fuel bath!!!
Well because the new tank now sits below the carburettor I needed something to pump the fuel up hill to the carb. There is no battery on my buggy so an electric pump is out of the question. The Kart racing shop came to the rescue again and sold me the pump oppersite. It works on vacuum pulses from the either the inlet manifold or crankcase breather of the engine.
I have the pump connected to the engine breather. The pump works fine but pressure in the engines crankcase is now too high and this has caused an oil seal to leak. I'm gonna change it to work off the inlet manifold. Well hears the new tank. It's held in place with a couple of small pull down ratchet straps. I think you'll agree, the fuel system looks a lot more professional now

Exhaust

When I first built the buggy I fabricated the exhaust from tubing. I got hold of a 4" big bore car silencer for the end. As well as looking quite good the buggy sounds awesome when going full chat across the fields. Well I had some "Do gooders" that saw me driving the buggy, make a comment that the buggy was a bit loud. So I was lucky enough to find another 4" big bore car silencer - an exact match for the one that was already fitted to the buggy. After a bit of "tricky" fabrication work and experimenting with back pressure, I fitted the other silencer and made the buggy a bit quieter. The buggy looks even better now!!
