                                Self-portrait using G9 ( see Equipment used, below )

My name is Frank Clark; I am a retired Accountant and keen amateur photographer. My main photographic interest lies in wild birds and in natural life, generally.

I live in Leigh in Lancashire and most of my photographs are taken in the North West although I take any opportunity to visit and photograph in various parts of the UK and Ireland.  I started as an amateur photographer in about 1968 or so with an EXA 500 SLR camera and developed in black and white using FP4 film. Over the years, I continued my photography with various SLRs and rangefinder cameras. I still have a Rollei B35 which I bought new in about 1972 but which I no longer use.

In 2000, I sold my Canon EOS gear to switch to digital with a Fuji 4900 4.3 MP bridge camera.

I now use a Nikon D80 DSLR with Nikon 80-400 VR and Nikon 18-200 VR lenses as well as a Kenko SP300 1.4 TC and Canon 500D close-up lens. In addition I have started using a Canon Powershot G9 as a carry-everywhere camera. I am very happy with this equipment and have no plans on making changes in the forseeable future.

I took up birdwatching about ten or so years ago when I lived in South Cambridgeshire and did a lot of birdwatching at Welney, Paxton Pits, Minsmere, Titchwell and Cley as well as various other less well-known locations in that area. However, in recent years, bird and nature photography has largely taken the place of birdwatching.

I am lucky to live close to Pennington Flash which has a first class nature reserve and is excellent for photography and I also take a lot of pictures from the Swan-link hide at Martin Mere.

During the summer months I take pictures of butterflies, dragonflies and wild flowers in and around walking distance of home.

My main aim now is to continue doing the same kind of photography but do it better!
