In 1996 the Korean People's Army (KPA) (the army of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) - North Korea) returned the remains of a United Nations Command Soldier to the United Nations Command at Panmunjom. The remains were accompanied by the identity tags of Private Edmunds. After two years of forensic investigation at the U.S. Army Central Identification Laboratory Hawaii, it was determined that the remains could not be positively identified as those of Private Edmunds. Accordingly, on 20th April 1998 the remains were interred at the United Nations Cemetery, Pusan, (Plot 70 Row 11 Grave 1) as "A British Soldier Known Only to God". British Veterans conducting the annual re-visit were present. The headstone is shown below. The next day, 21st April 1998 a private memorial service for Private Edmunds was held at the grave in the presence of his widow, and his identity tags and the Union Flag used during the funeral were presented to her.
