There is an entry on Page 76 in the UK Book of Remembrance held at the National Army Museum which reads: The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) : Private W Kirk
There is an entry in the Army Historical Branch's Roll of Honour which reads:
in Plot 70, Row 4, Position 1, and in Grave Serial 7788.
Number 22462423 Rank Pte Name KIRK, W Unit BW Date of Death 06.07.52 Commemorated or Buried Pusan-Plot 70, Row 4, Grave No. 7788
Private Kirk's name also appears on the Commonwealth War Memorial at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, Pusan on Plaque 9.
The probable reason for this duplication is that Private Kirk's body was originally buried as "Unknown", and his name was entered on the Commonwealth Memorial. Subsequently, it was possible to identify the unknown body as that of Private Kirk, and the headstone was changed. However, Private Kirk's name remained on the Commonwealth Memorial.
