Kate Sharpley Library Bulletin #35, July 2003.

The latest issue of the 7 page Bulletin has arrived with its usual mixture of historic reprints and book reviews. The reprints are of Ba Jin's "How are we to establish a truly free and egalitarian society?" from 1921 and an article by Leonard Abbott from Mother Earth's June 1914 issue about "The Fight for Free Speech in Tarrytown". Books reviewed are Sean Sheehan's "Anarchism", which is given a degree of approval, Kathryn and Martin Gay's "Encyclopedia of Political Anarchy" which gets the thumbs down and finally John Barker's prison memoirs  "Bending the Bars" which is given a resounding "Buy It!" from Mark Barnsley. The review of the encyclopedia concludes with an invitation by John for anyone who is interested in helping to compile a class-struggle anarchist perspective encyclopedia to get in touch. He mentions the Daily Bleed's online encyclopedia but omits a mention of the anarcho-syndicalism 101 / web site. http://www.anarchosyndicalism.org/as.php Anyway could be an interesting project.

The issue is finished off with a report that ChristieBooks have published an expanded edition of Gordon Carr's "The Angry Brigade: The Cause and the Case with additional material by John Barker and Stuart Christie (both defendants in the "Stoke Newington 8" trial). The new edition will set you back £30 but subscribers to the Bulletin can get it at a discount. So subscribe now!! There is also a full page of items for sale that the KSL publish or retail.

The KSL project is well worth supporting and can be contacted at BM Hurricane, London, WC1N 3XX. Subscriptions are £3.00 for individuals in the UK, £6.00 overseas and institutions have to pay £20. They welcome donations of materials as well as money. This may sound macabre but if you're making a will, it doesn't cost anything to insert a line or two leaving all your anarcho goodies (books, mags, correspondence, ephemera) to the KSL.
