Camps for Families, Children and Young People

This year Blue Skies will be offering the following camps based in the beautiful Roeburn Wood.

Family and Children's Camp: 25-28th July 2011

A fun packed camp of experiences in a wild forest for children and families. We will create a warm and friendly community and join together for a wonderful camp full of fun and adventure.

The week will be based around the John Muir Award which everyone will receive at the end of the week In the spirit of the Scottish conservationist John Muir, we will discover and explore the wonders of the forest. We will look after the woods that protect us during our stay and celebrate our journey throughout the camp.

During the camp we will play games, have a go at survival skills such as fire lighting, track animals, learn wood carving techniques and share stories, as well as much, much more.

No previous experience necessary.

Accommodation: This will be a wilderness experience with 'wild facilities', but we endeavor to make all as comfortable as possible. For further info go to Roeburn Wood

Location: Meeting at Helensburgh, near Glasgow

Cost: £130 (adults and unaccompanied children over 8 years old); £50 (accompanied children aged 5-13); Younger siblings are welcome; Under 2 years free
Please get in touch if the cost is outside your means.

Earth Skills Youth Camp: 9-16th August 2011

Join us to learn and develop your wilderness survival skills. Whatever your experience you will have a chance to have a go and develop survival skills handed down by Native Americans. Harvest wild edibles, learn primitive cooking and fire lighting, find medicinal plants, make water safe to drink and build an emergency shelter. At Roeburn wood, we will embark on adventures, playing games of stealth and working together with exciting challenges.

Part of the week will also be spent learning from nature with earth awareness exercises Some of the activities will be challenging, and some will be thought provoking, but they will all teach you something!

At the end of the week, you will be ready to put your new skills to the test with a challenging 24 hour solo. No matter how you choose to do it, this promises to be one of the most incredible outdoor experiences of your life.

We will live the week as caretakers of the earth. One session will involve practical conservation activities to give something back to the plants and animals that have taught us so much throughout the week.

This camp is highly recommended for all outdoor enthusiasts wishing to develop their survival skills, pursue outdoor education as a career or complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold residential.

Accommodation: We will be living primitively in tents and tipis, and cooking over an open fire. Further info at Roeburn Wood.
