& Wee Survivors
Join the Wee Survivors or the Young Survivors to experience the outdoors and develop practical skills that combine education, training and knowledge that lasts a lifetime. Learn and practice the skills of the Naturalist, Tracker, Herbalist, Scout, Hunter and Artisan through stories, games and hand-on activity. Safety, education, physical fitness, adventure and practical life skills are some of our top priorities. Monthly themes correspond to the seasons and cycles of nature which include survival skills, edible and medicinal plants, wildlife tracking, birding, and more.
At the end of each day we will finish with stories, songs and performances to share with parents what we have learnt. Who?
Due to the success and popularity of the children's programmes, the classes are split according to age: The Wee Survivors is for all aged 7- 11. The Young Survivors is for all aged 12- 18. You can also work towards your John Muir Award or Duke of Edinburgh's Award by participating in these courses.
The Young Survivors and the Wee Survivors usually meet on the first weekend of each month (April to November). You do not have to attend all classes, although there will be a natural progression from class to class. Where? Cost: £25 /£15 low wage per day "There were many highlights of this course, including fire, tracking, Native American philosophy and stories. I especially liked Kate's demo of 'fire by friction'. Tracking was amazing, I felt privileged to be taught these ancient skills, and to hear and take part in stories and rituals." Ruaridh Macdonald age 14 "I
come to theYoung Survivors because I am interested about the woods and
all the living things there. I like to find out what plants are eatable
and how to track animals and learn to make fires and make rope. I like
to do tasks like getting blind folded and following the sound of the
drum or following a rope. I like all my experiences but the most important
experience is making friends and when you need help some one will always
help you."
