Changeling and Singup

Changeling is planning two productions in June and July as part of its work with Singup:-

  • Songlines

  • Beginning in Barrow in Cumbria and ending in Hartlepool, over the course of approximately two weeks, a series of communities will perform songs and stories they have collected about their towns in a series of performances – first in their own town, and then in the next town along the line. As well as collecting and performing a selection of songs about their own area, the communities will also be encouraged to contribute a verse about their town to the Songlines Ballad. At the end of the project, all the communities will come together for one final, culminatory performance, in which the entire ballad is performed. Once the performance aspect of the project is finished, the collected works will be archived also be made available at a number of libraries and museums along the route.

  • The Last Wilderness

  • THE LAST WILDERNESS is a new choral work about the changing landscape and ecology of the North Pennines and the relationship of people to that landscape. The performances in Weardale will see professional artists – singers, writer, theatre director, musical director, orchestral and brass musicians, and designer – working alongside local people and the SingUp groups in a performance that will combine new and original music and song, drama, puppets, choreography and pyrotechnics. Performances in July.

Changeling Productions are currently developing a number of other projects.

  • The Bulgaria Project

  • Changeling have visited Bulgaria twice in the last year, developing contacts with Bulgarian choirs, musicians and other artists to develop a site-specific piece which explores the differing attitudes to nationality between Bulgaria and the UK. We expect to perform this in Sofia and the UK in 2010.

  • The Solway Saga

  • THE SOLWAY SAGA is a story and song-cycle created with schools and local people along the Solway Coast drawing upon the history of the coastline and the relationship of the local people to the coastline and the sea. The pilot project was performed in Silloth and we are currently preparing the two-year programme.

  • The Three Peaks

  • THREE PEAKS (working title),a site-specific work exploring the ambivalent relationship with the environment as exemplified in The Three Peaks race (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon the climbing of all three peaks in a specific time often to raise money for charity), is currently being discussed with Copeland Council and The Rose Hill Theatre, Whitehaven.
