Blockheads Tent move

Due to circumstances beyond her control, Lindsay Watts has had to close down the club which has been our home since June 2003.

Her long term plan is to return to Australia and I'm sure I speak for the whole tent when I say that we all wish her well for the future. We shall certainly miss her culinary skills at the Christmas party.

The Blockheads January meeting will now be held at the RAF Club, which is located at 11 Hillside Crescent, close to the CWU Club. A decision on a permanent base will be taken soon.

In the press

John Bogie saw this in Showbiz Sam's corner in the Daily Record (16.12.07.):

I remember being taken by my grandfather, who lived In Leeds, to see Laurel and Hardy at the theatre. I think it was around 1953-4. Can you confirm?

Showbiz entrepreneur Bernard Delfont arranged a series of tours for the world's most recognisable comedy duo across the UK in the 50s. They played Leeds Moss Empire during Easter week in 1952. Music was provided by Val Parnell and the support acts included Clayton and Ward, animal mimic Jimmy Elliot and aerial act The Kenways.

Rogue

You will recall my message about The Rogue Song. Well, Bob Stowell got an excellent response from Sons. He's thrilled. In fact, he now has the five-minute (approximately) ballet sequence from The Rogue Song - Laurel and Hardy are not in this sequence. As a thanks to all Sons, anyone who would like a copy can write or call him. He's asking for $5 to cover getting the copy and the mailing cost to readers in the USA - more for overseas. Send a check or money order, or send cash at your own risk. Bob does not have a computer.

Laurelandhardython

I am in the process of organising a Laurel and Hardy film show this year, maybe on the first Saturday in September at an actual London cinema - and showing actual 35mm films. The event will be from 12 noon till 9pm. Tickets will be £40, including lunch at PLANET HOLLYWOOD, LONDON. Please contact me for further information.
