Delayed Chase

The Charley Chase DVD which was to have been released in the USA this month has been delayed. The distributors say, "Sales of the Harry Langdon and American Slapstick 2 sets have been fairly soft, and we will be focusing attention on promoting those titles through this difficult economic period. Becoming Charley Chase is ready to go to replication as soon as the market seems ready to embrace him properly."

Pee-wees wanted

My name is Cristine, I have been put on a mission. I have a friend who absolutely loves Laurel & Hardy and March of the Wooden Soldiers. He does not believe that pee-wees actually do exist. So I am on mission to find them. I understand that there are competitions in which the Pee-Wee game is played, so someone must have them somewhere. This is where your help comes in. I need a set of pee-wees and stick! Where can I get it?

Another refinery mess

The above heading was used in The Sunday Times (23.11.08.) for a letter commenting on the discrepancy between the price of petrol and diesel.

Some more on Atoll K

I always liked Atoll K to some degree, especially due to the more pleasant German cut (compared to the crude Utopia). But finding more and more scenes I liked the movie even more, just because the longer version does make more sense.

Of course, Atoll K is no masterpiece. But we know for sure that the Boys still were the lovable characters we adore so much and didn't end as the sometimes idiot characters from the '40s. Their professionalism alone made the result watchable and entertaining.

Did you see?

On 1st November, on BBC 1's game show Hole in the Wall, when Anton du Beke and Phil Tuffnell were knocked into the water, the Cuckoo theme was played.

On 21st November on Gold, in an old episode of Waiting for God, Diana Trent (Stephanie Cole) said to Tom (Graham Crowden), "How are we going to get out of this fine mess, Ollie?" while pulling her hand through her hair.

Late in the evening of 25th November my partner was channel-hopping when some dialogue caught my attention and when I looked at the screen I saw two actors who were obviously taking off Stan and Ollie. Checking the TV guide, it was the hour-long programme on BBC4 called Stan in which Stan is visiting Ollie just prior to his death and recalling various episodes of their partnership. Unfortunately by that time the programme was half over.

On 29th November on Challenge, in an old episode of the game show Catchphrase, an image was shown of two Stan Laurels and one Ollie with the word "resting" above the images of Stan. This proved to be "resting on your Laurels" which the contestant got right.
