Terry Weir, Aston Villa and the Statue Appeal

15 years ago I decided that Laughing Gravy would meet on the first Thursday of the month. Why Thursday? Because there were never any football matches played on a Thursday night.

15 years later and, would you believe it, our October tent night clashed with Aston Villa playing at home in Europe. Doh!

Terry Weir

It just so happened that we chose the October meeting to sell some of Terry Weir's Laurel and Hardy collection for the Statue Appeal.

Terry, as you all know, was the Aston Villa photographer for over 25 years.

I missed the match and went to the tent meeting. I wonder if Terry would have done the same?

His collection raised £97.50. This was added to £22.50 raised by Nigel Clarke's recorder playing, to make a grand total of £120.00 Eric Woods informs me that this takes us below £4,000 required to finish off the Appeal!

Spooky boozer

Gary Winstanley has found out that the Honeysuckle pub, the venue of the Dirty Work Tent is (apparently) Wigan's most haunted boozer! Gary says, "Our room is upstairs, so if some bloke says to us, 'You're wanted on the phone. . . downstairs', we shall ignore him."

Andy's choice

The Blockheads Tent has a "showcase" slot at its meetings, for which a member is invited to choose three of his or her favourite short films for screening. At the September meeting Andy Wilson selected Blotto, Them Thar Hills and Going Bye-Bye.

 Did you see?

Did you see The Graham Norton Show on 3rd October on BBC2? Actor and comedian Eddie Izzard made a point that one of the cats on a website called www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com actually looked like Oliver Hardy. See for yourselves.
